Strategies for involving children in planning
Teachers in the Forum recognise that giving children opportunities and skills to express their thoughts and feelings about their school experience is increasingly recognised as important to their well-being and achievements.
Some have been involving the children from the outset in planning new topics and learning experiences. They hope that doing this will increase children's motivation and the meaningfulness of learning activities from their perspective.
Others plan only the initial activities and then allow the children to take the ideas where they want to, based on what inspires their interest.
Examples of children's involvement in planning
- Using post-its to gather and organise children's ideas around a topic.
- Planning guided by childrens interests
